There has been a lot of talk about another Sherlock Holmes this film year, with both Robert Downey Jr and Guy Ritchie expressing a desire to return to the franchise.

And now it looks like things are moving a little faster as Silver has revealed that they could film later this year - before Downey Jr goes off to film Avengers: Infinity War.

Speaking to Collider about the project, Silver said: "It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He's gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we're trying to get it done.

"We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we're hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we'll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now."

The movie would see Downey Jr and Jude Law reprise the roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson for the first time since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows back in 2011.

While there is still no word on a possible cast list, the likes of Kelly Reilly and Eddie Marsan would be expected to return.

It was back in 2009 when Downey Jr took on the role or Holmes for the first time. The movie was a big success and went on to gross $524 million and earnt Downey Jr a Golden Globe for his central performance.

A Game of Shadows followed two years later and we another box office success as it grossed over $545 million. It seemed inevitable that a third film would go ahead - it seems that it has all been about getting the cast and director together at the same time.

Downey Jr is in huge demand with his role as Iron Man for the MCU and is set to film two Infinity War movies back to back at the beginning of next year.

There's no official word on when we may see Sherlock Holmes 3 hit the big screen.
