Stars including Sienna Miller and Damian Lewis supported the BFI's first ever Luminous gala in London last night (08.10.13).

The star-studded event served as a prelude to the 57th annual BFI London Film Festival and a host of stars supported the charitable occasion, which raised money to help the British Film Institute preserve the classic British cinema in its archives.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz on the red carpet, 'The Sweeney' actor Ray Winstone said: "Ever since I was a kid I was going to the cinema to see the pictures. It's our escape, it's our fantasy ... For me, the British film industry looks after that and makes it able for people like me to enjoy going to watch the cinema."

Among the prized items up for auction at the exclusive black tie event were a replica Formula 1 racing car from the recent film 'Rush', a signed suit worn by John Travolta in the hit film 'Face/Off' and a velvet jacket worn by hunky 'Skyfall' star Daniel Craig in 'Our Friends in the North'.

The bash was hosted by TV chat show king Jonathan Ross, who was joined on the red carpet by a host of A-list supporters including Helen McCrory, Rosamund Pike, David Morrissey, Tom Hooper and Romola Garai.

Morrissey, who stars on hit show 'The Walking Dead', praised the BFI for its efforts in supporting British filmmakers and actors.

He said: "It promotes us around the world. We're a proud industry and the BFI has to take us around the world and showcase us to make great talent from all over the world come here and work with British talent."
