Pegg reveals that he spent quite a bit of time on set during the filming of the film - allegedly because Pinewood is close to his house and not because he could be making an appearance in the film - and he says that this film is really going to deliver.

Speaking to Total Film, the actor said: "I spent a lot of time on set, that's for sure, because obviously Pinewood [studio] is just down the road for me. So I went to visit and it was quite wonderful to behold.

"I'm very, very excited. I think J.J.'s nailed it with aplomb. You only have to watch the teaser to know that. Everything that it promises, it delivers, and more. It's going to be extraordinary."

Pegg has been linked with Star Wars ever since it was announced that J.J. Abrams was set to direct - Pegg has worked with Abrams Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness.

The movie will see franchise favourites Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher reprise the roles of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. But there are a whole host of new names on board as Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, and Lupita Nyong'o are set to star.

As for Pegg, he has a very busy 2015 ahead of him as we are going to be seeing him star in Man Up and Absolutely Anything. He will also be reprising the role of Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

Star Trek 3 is also in the pipeline for Pegg, who will be back as Scotty as well as having a hand in penning the screenplay. However, it will be Justin Lin in the director's chair this time around as he takes over from Abrams for the first time.

Earlier this week it was rumoured that Idris Elba was possibly on board the film as the villain. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban are all expected to return.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is released 18th December.
