The 76-year-old actor has revealed people are such big fans of his role as Gandalf the wizard in the 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Hobbit' films that one man even offered to pay him a "very heavy fee" to go to his wedding in costume.

Asked if he's gained lots of young fans since taking on the part, he shared: "It's been very pleasant. And when I meet people's children and grandchildren, they get excited. They love Gandalf and trust him, so they like a chat with his representative - me. I was offered a fortune by a very rich man to appear at his wedding. It was a very heavy fee. I might have done it, but part of the deal was that I show up as Gandalf."

The 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' star previously officiated the marriage of his close pal and co-star Patrick Stewart and admits all he has left to do now is perform a wedding for a lesbian couple.

He explained to heat magazine: "I officiated for Patrick at his wedding, yes. I don't know why they asked me to do that, but I'd already officiated a civil partnership between two men, so all I need now is to do the same with two lesbians and I'll have covered all the bases."
