Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren will make a return to the big screen for her son Edoardo Ponti's new movie 'La Voce Umana' ('The Human Voice').

The role will mark the iconic 70-year-old actress' first lead role since 2004 when she starred in the Lina Wertmueller-directed comedy 'Peperoni Ripieni e Pesci in Faccia' ('Too Much Romance... It's Time for Stuffed Peppers'), and her first acting work of any kind since Italian TV movie 'La Mia Casa e' Piena di Specchi' ('My House is Full of Mirrors') three years ago.

According to Italian newspapers, the story is based on a one-person play first performed in 1930, which was written by French poet and writer Jean Cocteau.

However the Italian actress will not be brushing up on her French skills when she begins shooting later this month as the play has been adapted to the Neapolitan dialect - a particular form of the Italian language spoken in Naples, Italy.

The film will be set across Rome, Ostia and Naples in Italy.

This is the second time the mother-and-son duo have worked together.

Ponti directed his mother when she starred in his film debut, 'Cuori Estrani' ('Between Strangers'), in 2002.
