Southpaw is one of the summer movies that I cannot wait to see - not only does it mark the return of Jake Gyllenhaal, but it will be a welcome break from all of the blockbusters that will be coming out way.

Southpaw

Southpaw

Gyllenhaal is one of the most exciting actors around and he as - once again - gone above and beyond to get himself into great shape for this boxing film.

Southpaw sees Gyllenhaal team up with filmmaker Antoine Fuqua for the first time, as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since The Equalizer last autumn.

Southpaw looks set to be a dramatic ride with Gyllenhaal on top form and you can see him in action in this brand new TV spot:

Gyllenhaal takes on the central role of boxer Billy Hope and is joined on the cast list by Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Naomie Harris, 50 Cent and Clare Foley.

Southpaw follows the story of Billy 'The Great' Hope, Junior Middleweight Boxing Champion of the World. When tragedy strikes and he loses it all, Billy enters the battle of his life as he struggles to become a contender once again and win back those he loves.

Fuqua has delivered some gritty and dramatic movies that have been packed with interesting - and often flawed -characters, and it looks like he is going to do the same again with Southpaw.

Southpaw also promises to see Gyllenhaal give another riveting and electric performance and I really cannot wait to see him in action. If the big budget blockbusters are not your thing this summer, Southpaw is a movie that you cannot afford to miss.

Southpaw is released 24th July.
