Chris Pine has hinted that shooting on the third Star Trek movie will get underway at some point next year.

Pine is set to reprise the role of Captain Kirk in the new film, while the likes of Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are also set to return to the successful franchise.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "We're always the last to know as the actors, but there's a script out there somewhere, and I'm pretty sure we'll get to making it happen some time next year," he said.

Pine first took on the role of Kirk when the Star Trek franchise was rebooted by J.J. Abrams back in 2009. Everyone returned in 2013 for Star Trek Into Darkness.

However, Abrams will not be back in the director's chair for the new film, having left to focus on the Star Wars franchise. Roberto Orci was the favourite to take over at the helm, but it was announced earlier this month that he would not be the film's director.

The search for the new director goes on and an announcement it yet to be made about who has been hired for the job.

As for Pine, we last saw him on the big screen in comedy Horrible Bosses 2 and he will be back in the new year with Into The Woods.

Into the Woods is one of the must see January movies as the Stephen Sondheim stage musical is adapted for the big screen. The movie will bring together a whole host of classic fairytale characters and Pine is set to play Price Charming.

Pine has also completed work on Z for Zachariah and The Finest Hours, both of which are set to hit the big screen next year.
