Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness has toppled Iron Man 3 from the top of the UK box office as the two blockbusters went head to head this week.

This is the second Star Trek movie from director J.J. Abrams after he rebooted the much loved franchise back in 2009.

The movie took £8.42 million in its opening weekend to comfortably bring Iron Man 3's reign to an end.

The latest Marvel movie slipped just a single place this week after taking a further £3.18 million.

Iron Man 3 has now taken in excess of £31 million in the UK alone and is quickly closing in on the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Comedy 21 & Over also fell a single place this week while there was no more for All Stars at four.

The Croods continues to perform well and was back up into the top five this week at number five.

The animation movie has so far grossed over £25 million in the UK and a sequel is believed to be in the pipeline.

Olympus Has Fallen fell three places this week to six while Mud was the second and final new entry as it opened at number seven.
