Stephen Lang is set to reprise the role of Colonel Miles Quaritch in the Avatar sequel.

The character of Quaritch was killed off by Neytiri at the end of the first movie, but James Cameron has confirmed that the character will be back.

Speaking to Deadline the director said: "Steven was so memorable in the first film, we're privileged to have him back. I'm not going to say exactly how we're bringing him back, but it's a science fiction story, after all.

"His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who's also become a good friend."

Avatar is the biggest grossing movie of all time and there has been a lot of sequel talk since the movie hit the big screen in 2009.

But it looks like we are finally going to get the next instalment as it is thought the next three films will be shot simultaneously starting next year.

Screenwriters, Josh Friedman, Shane Salerno, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver movies will be shot simultaneously starting next year.

Cameron will be back in the director's chair for the film and the first movie will be released in 2016.
