It has been announced that Steve Jobs is set to be the Closing Night film at the 59th BFI London Film Festival.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs marks the return of Danny Boyle to the director's chair and is a biopic about the co-founder of Apple. Inc, which is set to be one of the movies not to miss this autumn.

Steve Jobs, which sees Michael Fassbender take on the title role, is already tipped as a potential Oscar contender and the screening at the London Film Festival will be its European Premiere.

Steve Jobs is the third of Oscar winner Boyle's films to close the BFI London Film Festival and follows in the footsteps of Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours; the former went on to scoop the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars.

Speaking about the film's inclusion in the London Film Festival programme, Boyle said: "If London was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution then San Francisco is the Bethlehem of the digital one. We had a brilliant time making this movie in Silicon Valley and

"I hope Londoners will enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the modern world. It's always special to bring work home so thanks to BFI London Film Festival for their continued support."

The movie sees Boyle work with Fassbender for the first time, while Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Katherine Waterston make up a very impressive cast list.

Spanning a period of 14 years between 1984 and 1998 the story is built around three seminal product launches - of the Macintosh in 1984, the NeXT 'Cube' in 1988 and the iMac in 1998 - and it uses this innovative structure to create a cross-hatched portrait of Jobs' life and to tell the story of the new mass-market technologies that have revolutionised how we communicate with one another.

The full programme for the BFI London Film Festival will be announced on 1st September but we already know that Suffragette - another film tipped to be an Oscar runner - has the honour of opening the festival.

The 59th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express® runs from Wednesday 7 October-Sunday 18 October 2015. Steve Jobs will be released into UK cinemas on 13th November.
