Stallone has been linked to the highly anticipated Marvel sequel for some time and, at Comic-Con over the weekend, it was confirmed that the actor was on board the project.

And while James Gunn has not given much away about Stallone's role in the upcoming film, which will see him back in the director's chair, he has given fans a little hint.

Speaking to Cinema Blend about Stallone, he said: "It's a very, very key, important role. It's not a huge role. He's a great and key supporting actor."

I guess we are going to have to wait a little longer to find out just where the Oscar-nominated actor is going to fit into the story.

But Stallone is not the only big new addition to the cast list, as it was also confirmed that Kurt Russell will play Peter Quill's father, Ego.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 was one of the most anticipated films at this year's Comic-Con and fans were treated to the first trailer for the movie.

The film sees Gunn back in the director's chair for the first time since the success of Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014. As well as being in the director's chair, he is on writing duties once again.

There are plenty of familiar faces on the cast list as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper. Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista are all returning to the roles of Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and Drax.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
