It has been a while since we have seen Sean Penn on the big screen in a leading role, but this March he is set to return with The Gunman - and the first poster for the film has been revealed by Open Road Films.

The Gunman is set to be an action packed role for Penn as he teams up with director Pierre Morel to bring the Jean-Patrick Manchette novel alive. Morel has been behind movies such as District 13, Taken, and From Paris with Love during his filmmaking career but this is the first time that he has teamed up with Penn.

Penn takes on the central role of Jim Terrier and is joined on the cast list by Idris Elba, Javier Bardem, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance, and Jasmine Trinca.

In The Gunman, directed by Pierre Morel, Sean Penn stars as a former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.

We last saw Penn on the big screen in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty at the end of 2013, but you have to go back to 2012 and This Must Be the Place for his last lead role.

The Gunman is released 20th March
