The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has opened at the top of the U.S. box office, ending the reign of Exodus: Gods and Kings.

The Battle of the Five Armies is the third and final movie in The Hobbit trilogy from director Peter Jackson and it took over $56 million in its opening weeked.

The movie has already topped the box office in the UK,and has already grossed in excess of $355 million at the global box office.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb - which is the third film in the popular Night at the Museum franchise. The movie sees Shawn Levy back in the director's chair, while Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais and Robin Williams are some of the familiar faces that are returning to their roles.

Annie made it a third brand new entry inside the top three as the iconic musical has been given a makeover by director Will Gluck. Exodus: Gods and Kings and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 were both down three places to round off the top five at four and five.

Wild was the only film on the top this week as it jumped from ten to six. The film will mark the return of Reese Witherspoon, who has already a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the biopic movie.

Top Five and Big Hero 6 were both down three places this week at seven and eight but it was Penguins of Madagascar that was this week's biggest faller. The first Madagascar spin-off was down six places from three to nine.

P.K. was the fourth and final new entry inside the top ten, as it opened at number ten.
