Tommy Lee Jones is set to team up with Hilary Swank later this autumn for The Homesman, and the brand new poster for the film has been released.

The Homesman is a Western drama that is an adaptation of the novel by Glendon Swarthout, and sees Jones back in the director’s chair as well as on the cast list.

Jones made his directorial debut back in 2005 with The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and this is his first film since that great debut.

Jones will take on the central role of George Briggs, while double Oscar winner Swan will play Marry Bee Cuddy in the film. The pair is joined on the cast list by Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, John Lithgow and Meryl Streep.

When three women living on the edge of the American frontier are driven mad by harsh pioneer life, the task of saving them falls to the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy (Swank).

Transporting the women by covered wagon to Iowa, she soon realizes just how daunting the journey will be, and employs a low-life drifter, George Briggs (Jones), to join her.

The unlikely pair and the three women (Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter) head east, where a waiting minister and his wife (Streep) have offered to take the women in. But the group first must traverse the harsh Nebraska Territories marked by stark beauty, psychological peril and constant threat.

The Homesman is already receiving critical praise - the central performances of Jones and Swank particularly so - and this is set to be one of the movies not to miss this December.

The Homesman is released 28th November.
