The Sea of Trees is set to see Matthew McConaughey return to the big screen as he teams up with director Gus Van Sant for the first time.

The Sea of Trees

The Sea of Trees

The Sea of Trees is a movie that is set to play at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will compete for the prestigious Palme d'Or.

Sadly, no UK release date has been confirmed for Sea of Trees but it will be the first time that we have seen the actor on the big screen since the huge success of Interstellar at the end of last year.

Deadline have released the first clip for the film and we have it for you to take a look at:

The Sea of Trees follows a suicidal man who befriends a Japanese man lost in a forest new Mount Fuji. Together they try to find a way out.

McConaughey will take on the central role of Arthur Brennan and will star alongside Ken Watanabe. Naomi Watts, Jordan Gavaris, James Saito, and Katie Aselton complete the line-up.

Gus Van Sant has brought us terrific character driven movies during his career with the likes of Good Will Hunting and Milk already under his belt. However, The Sea of Trees will be the directors first movie since Promised Land back in 2013.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reception The Sea of Trees will receive at Cannes - hopefully, McConaughey and Van Sant will make a great filmmaking team and this is the great movie that it promises to be.

We are going to have to wait to discover when The Sea of Trees will hit the big screen in the UK.
