Filming has got underway on the latest film from Working Title, The Theory of Everything: a movie that looks at Stephen Hawking’s time at Cambridge and the arts student he fell in love with.

Jane Wilde was that woman and the movie is based on her memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen - the book has been adapted for the big screen by Anthony McCarten.

The Theory of Everything will see James Marsh return to the director’s chair for what is his first feature film since Shadow Dancer.

Eddie Redmayne will take on the role of Hawking in the film, while up and coming star Felicity Jones will take on the role of Jane Wilde.

Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age.

He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children.

Over the course of their marriage as Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

Redmayne enjoyed huge critical and box office success earlier this year in Les Miserables, and he will be back on the big screen next year in Jupiter Ascending.

Jones has been making a name for herself in recent years and she has a series of exciting films on the horizon including The Invisible Woman, the second film from director Ralph Fiennes, and The Amazing Spider Man 2.

Filming on The Theory of Everything will take place in Cambridge as well as other locations throughout the UK.
