Russell Crowe is one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood and the Oscar winning actor is set to make the leap into the director's chair with new film The Water Diviner.

Many would have possibly expected Crowe to have made his directorial debut long before now but The Water Diviner is set to see him make that exciting transition. Do no worry Crowe fans, he is not leaving acting behind as he is also set to star in the film as well as direct.

Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios have teamed up to pen the screenplay, which is set after the battle of Gallipoli and is inspired by historical events.

Crowe is set to take on the central role of Joshua - who sets off in search of his sons after the battle of Gallipoli - and is joined on the cast by Jai Courtney, Olga Kurylenko, Isabel Lucas, Cem Yilmaz, Yilmaz Erdogan, and Ryan Corr,

Four years after the devastating Battle of Gallipoli, Arthur, Edward and Henry Connor are still reported missing in action. With no further news, their father Joshua (Crowe) travels from his farm in Australia to the war-torn peninsula but finds his questions blocked by military bureaucracy.

Desperately holding onto hope, Joshua meets a Turkish war hero who becomes an unlikely ally as he struggles to find his own peace.

The Water Diviner is a movie that has been met well since it premiered in Sydney back in December - it went on to be the highest grossing Australian film of last year.

The Water Diviner is a movie that I have been looking forward to for some time, and I can't wait to see Crowe take up the director's chair for the first time. I think we could see him at the helm for more movies over the next few years.

The Water Diviner is released April 3rd.
