The 35-year-old actor took to Instagram on Thursday (20.10.16) to confirm his involvement in the comedy clay animation project, as he shared an image of himself working with the director Nick Park on a video link.

The photo was captioned: "Been working with the great Nick Park and Aardman on their hilarious new film, @earlymanmovie. He is absolutely as brilliant as you might expect. Sometimes he makes me laugh so much I have to leave the sound studio for five minutes and calm down and have another go. (sic)"

The project is being made by animation giants Aardman, who are behind movies such as 'Flushed Away' and 'Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit'.

The news of the 'Night Manager' stars involvement comes after it was previously revealed Eddie Redmayne would be playing the titular character.

'Early Man' focuses on a caveman named Dug (Eddie), and his sidekick named Hognob. The double act team up to unite Dug's tribe and battle with the fearsome Bronze Age. Hiddleston is set to play the villainous Lord Nooth, the governor of Bronze Age town and rival to Dug.

In a statement posted by Aardman, Hiddleston said: "I have been a fan of Nick Park and Aardman for as long as I can remember, and am incredibly honoured to be working with Nick and the team on this adventure. I'm thrilled to be able to breathe some semblance of life into this hysterical villain and to work with Eddie for the first time. 'Early Man' made me laugh out loud when I read it. Lord Nooth is larger than life in every respect. I can't wait for audiences to meet him".

Whilst Park added: "Tom is a wonderful actor and it's so thrilling to see him bring our comic villain to life with his amazing talent, energy and enthusiasm. It is a great privilege to work with Tom and I'm so excited to see his character Lord Nooth emerge on screen!"

'Early Man' is set to hit the big screens on January 26 2018.
