Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is set to star in Skull Island.

Legendary Pictures revealed that plans to make Skull Island at Comic Con earlier this year, and is based on the origins of King Kong.

Max Borenstein - who penned Godzilla - was already on board the project as writer, but now Hiddleston is aboard the project.

And while Hiddleston is aboard the project, the role he is going to take on in the film has not yet been revealed.

Early reports suggested that Legendary Pictures was looking at Joe Cornish to direct, but Jordan Vogt-Roberts is now aboard the film in the director's chair.

Vogt-Roberts made his directorial debut with The Kings of Summer back in 2013, and this will mark the first time that he has worked with Hiddleston.

Hiddleston has already had a very busy 2014, with success in Only Lovers Left Alive, while completing work on High-Rise and Crimson Peak.

High-Rise will see the actor work with director Ben Wheatley, while he has worked with Guillermo del Toro for the first time with Crimson Peak.

The actor is also set to take on the role of Hank Williams in a new biopic I Saw the Light.

There is no word on when the film will start shooting, but it is expected to hit the big screen in November 2016.
