Joss Whedon has published an email that he received from actor Tom Hiddleston, thanking him for writing him ‘my Hans Gruber’ part in Avengers Assemble.

Hiddleston teamed up with Whedon for the first time in Avengers Assemble, which saw him reprise the role of villain Loki: a character we were introduced to in Thor.

And Hiddleston was so pleased with the role and the way the character was written and developed throughout the film, that he wrote the email to Whedon thanking him.

Part of the email read: "Thank you for writing me my Hans Gruber," Hiddleston continued. "But a Hans Gruber with super-magic powers. As played by James Mason.

"It's high operatic villainy alongside detached throwaway tongue-in-cheek; plus the 'real menace' and his closely guarded suitcase of pain.

"It's grand and epic and majestic and poetic and lyrical and wicked and rich and badass and might possibly be the most gloriously fun part I've ever stared down the barrel of playing. It is just so juicy."

Avengers Assemble went on to gross over $1 billion at the global box office and become the third highest grossing movie of all time behind Avatar and Titanic.

As for Hiddleston, the character of Loki has gone on to become one of the most popular Marvel villains and sent the British actor’s star rocketing.

Hiddleston returned to the role of Loki last year, as he reunited with Chris Hemsworth for Thor: The Dark World - which was another box office success for the actor.
