Triplets is going to be very 'tongue in cheek' according to screenwriter Josh Gad.

Triplets is the sequel to Twins, which was released in 1988 and saw Danny DeVito team up with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

DeVito and Schwarzenegger will be back as Vincent and Julius Benedict, while Ivan Reitman will be back in the director's chair.

Gad has penned the screenplay with Ryan Dixon, and told ComingSoon.net: "We're very reverential to the original, but have our tongue firmly in our cheek.

"As it needs to be, it's very modernised. It's taking them into the new world and it's acknowledging that comedy's changed a lot in 20 years.

"If you saw 'Twins' and it was released as a movie currently, you'd be like, 'This is really strange,' so we honour that and respect it, but we also play on it."

This movie will see Julius and Vincent joined by a third brother - which is set to be played by funnyman Eddie Murphy.

Twins was a huge box office hit when it hit the big screen in 1988 as the movie went on to gross in excess of £216 million at the global box office.

A date for the start of filming on 'Triplets' has yet to be decided.
