It has been hinted in recent months that we may finally see the Guardians join the Avengers in the upcoming two-part film... but the cast list for the Anthony and Joe Russo movies have yet to be confirmed.

However, Diesel, who has been keeping his fans up to date on Facebook, confirmed that we are going to see the Guardians step into the Avengers franchise for the first time.

In a Facebook live stream where Diesel talked about upcoming Marvel projects, he said: "Next year you've got Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming and that whole concept started from you all saying 'when are you gonna be in a Marvel movie?' And you remember the first picture after that Marvel meeting that I had where I was standing [with] the Avengers thing in the back - some of you can look up that picture - there was this old Avengers copy that was behind me in that picture if you look back on my Facebook page you can find that.

"What's gonna be surreal is that picture is going to come to pass because now the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that's incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page you knew before everybody."

Diesel is set to reprise the role of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, which will be the first of three Marvel films to be released next year.

The film will come three years after the huge success of the Guardians of the Galaxy and sees James Gunn back on directing and writing duties. Filming on the movie has already been completed and excitement around the movie is beginning to grow.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Diesel are back as Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.

But there are some big new additions to the cast list as Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell will be introduced as Ayesha and Ego. Sylvester Stallone is also on board but his character is yet to be revealed.

Filming on Avengers: Infinity War is due to start at the beginning of next year and will see Anthony and Joe Russo take over the director's chair from Joss Whedon for the first time.

The film comes after the directing sibling have enjoyed huge critical and commercial success with Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War in recent years.

Avengers: Infinity War is released 27th April 2018.
