Davis is set to get her childhood wish as she has been cast in the upcoming DC Comic movie Suicide Squad - which is due to start filming later this year.

The Oscar nominated actress is set to take on the role of Amanda Waller, as she teams up with director David Ayer for the first time.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis said: "As a comic book and Wonder Woman fan, I love the whole DC Comics universe. I traded comic books as a kid, so all of that appeals to me. When you dream about being an actor as a kid, that's what you dream about.

"That's like play acting: being the superhero, getting the gun; it plays into that fantasy."

Suicide Squad is already one of the most talked about movies of 2016 - and the cameras haven't even started rolling - as Ayer has brought together an incredible cast.

Davis is on board as Waller, and she will be joined by Will Smith, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, and Cara Delevingne, who have been cast as Deadshot, The Joker, Rick Flagg, Boomerang, Harley Quinn, and Enchantress.

Davis returned to the big screen last month as she teamed up with Chris Hemsworth for crime drama Blackhat, but she has also been finding success on the small screen.

The actress takes on the central role in How To Get Away With Murder, one of the most acclaimed television shows of 2014. For her performance as Annalise Keating, Davis was nominated for a Golden Globe and won a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Suicide Squad is released 5th August 2016.
