Captain America: The Winter Solider

Captain America: The Winter Solider

The summer blockbuster season may have just got underway but we are already looking forward to some of the movies that will be hitting the big screen this time next year.

There are some terrific movies on the horizon next summer and we take a look at some that are not to be missed.

Captain America: The Winter Solider

Filming on Captain America: The Winter Solider is currently underway as Captain America gets a second solo outing.

Chris Evans is back in the role for the first time since Avengers Assemble and this is the first solo Captain America movie that will be set in modern day - it will follow Steve Rodgers as he adjusts to his new life.

But he will be called into action once again as he teams up with Black Widow and new character Falcon to battle evil.

Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson and Hayley Atwell are some of the familiar faces we will be seeing on the cast list. But there are some new names to watch out for including Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Robert Redford (Agent Alexander Pierce).

Captain America: The Winter Solider is released 4th April 2014.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past is another movie that is being filmed as we speak as director Bryan Singer returns to the X-Men franchise for the first time since X2.

This movie is a sequel to the successful X-Men: First Class and will see the two X-Men franchises collide as new and old characters are set to appear.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will all be reprising their roles from First Class while there are a host of familiar faces from the original franchise.

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry are reprising their roles of Professor Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine and Storm.

The movie will feature time travel and will focus on a change to a major historical event - it promises to be the most daring X-Men movie we have seen.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 18th July 2014.

The Amazing Spider Man 2

If you are a lover of the superhero movie then you are in for a treat next summer as there are a whole host of comic book movies to watch out for… and The Amazing Spider Man 2 is also set to drop.

The franchise was rebooted last year by Marc Webb and filming is currently underway on the highly anticipated sequel.

Webb will be back in the director’s chair while Brit actor Andrew Garfield will be reprising the title role, while Emma Stone is also back as Gwen Stacy.

Now much is known about the plot of the film but we do know that Electro is set to be the villain - played by Oscar winner Jamie Foxx.

But there are plenty of other new faces to watch out for including Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti and Chris Cooper.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 is released 18th April 2014.

Transformers 4

When Transformers: Dark of the Moon hit the big screen in 2011 it was through that that would be the end of the Michael Bay franchise.

However next summer will see bay back in the director’s chair for the fourth film in the franchise… a film that will see a big change.

The movie is being taken in a different direction rather than being rebooted as Shia LaBeouf will not be returning to the role of Sam.

Instead the movie will see Bay reunite with Mark Wahlberg - they have worked together on Pain & Gain - as the Oscar nominated actor will now lead the franchise forward.

Jack Reynor is also on the cast list for what is the biggest role of his career while Stanley Tucci is also on board.

Filming is set to get underway later this year and Transformers 4 is released 27th June 2014.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the apes was one of the best movies of 2011 and next summer will see the sequel hit the big screen.

Filming is already underway on the highly anticipated sequel as Matt Reeves takes over the director’s chair from Rupert Wyatt.

The movie is an adaptation of the novel by Pierre Boulle and has been adapted into a screenplay by May Bomback.

Andy Serkis is back as Caesar after he gave a wonderful motion capture performance in the first film. He is joined by Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke, who are all on board the cast list.

The movie follows a group of scientists in San Francisco struggle to stay alive in the aftermath of a plague that is wiping out humanity, while Caesar tries to maintain dominance over his community of intelligent apes.

Filming is currently underway on the movie and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is released 23rd May 2014.

The Good Dinosaur

No summer is complete without a Pixar movie and The Good Dinosaur is the animation film to watch out for in 2014.

The Good Dinosaur is a movie that has been in the pipeline for some time and will see Bob Peterson in the director’s chair - he will be making his solo feature film debut with this movie.

Not much is known about the film so far except that Thomas Newman will be back to work on the score for the film - he has worked on Wall-E and Finding Nemo in the past.

The Good Dinosaur is released 18th July 2014.

Other movies to watch out for next summer include Guardians of the Galaxy, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Jurassic Part 4 and Godzilla.
