Trance

Trance

British cinema really thrived in 2012 with movies such as The Woman in Black and Skyfall being hugely successful.

And that trend looks set to continue into 2013 with some great movies on the horizon.

Trance is just one of the British movies not to miss over the next twelve months and we take a look at some of the other standout projects.

Trance

Trance marks the return to the director's chair for Danny Boyle for the first time since the success of 127 hours.

This movie sees him tackle the action/thriller and is set to be one of the early Brit movies not to miss.

A Danny Boyle movie is never to be missed but when you see James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel on the cast list you know that you are in for a treat.

John Hodge, long standing writer for Boyle, has teamed up with Joe Ahearne for this thrilling screenplay.

Trance is a psychological thriller about a fine art auctioneer, mixed up with a criminal gang, who join forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting.

Trance is released 27th March.

The World's End

If blockbusters really are not your thing then The World's End is the movie for you this summer as Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright reunite.

This is the third project that the trio have worked on together and the first since the success of Hot Fuzz.

Wright is in the director's chair while he and Pegg have penned what is set to be a great screenplay.

Pegg and Frost lead the cast list while Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsan and Paddy Considine are all on board.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again.

The World's End is released 14th August

About Time

Another movie that is absolutely not to be missed this year is About Time as Richard Curtis returns to the director's chair.

This is only the third directorial outing for Curtis and his first since The Boat That Rocked - he has also penned the screenplay.

Domhnall Gleeson takes on the lead role while he is joined on the cast list by Rachel McAdams, Bill NIghy and Tom Hollander.

At the age of 21, Tim is told an incredible family secret by his father - that all the men in his family have the ability to travel in time.

He can relive any moment in his life to try things differently until he gets them perfectly right.

About Time is released 6th September.

Dom Hemingway

The older Jude Law gets the more interesting roles he has landed and he will be back on the big screen later this year with Don Hemingway.

The movie sees Law team up with director Dom Hemingway who is making his first movie since The Hunting Party back in 2007.

Law takes on the title role in the movie which also stars Richard E. Grant, Demian Bichir and Emilia Clarke.

Dom Hemingway is a larger-than-life safecracker with a loose fuse - funny, profane, and dangerous.

Back on the streets of London after twelve years in prison, it’s time to collect what he’s owed for keeping his mouth shut.

Don Hemingway will be released later this year.

A Field In England

One of the best British films of 2012 came in the form of Ben Wheatley's Sightseers and this year he is back with A Field In England.

This time around he tackles the horror genre as he teams up with Amy Jump to pen the screenplay.

The movie was shot in just a fortnight and stars Julian Barratt and Michael Smiley.

England: 1648 AD. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field.

They are captured by two men: O'Neil and Cutler. O'Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.

Wheatley is quickly making a name for himself in British cinema and A Field In England looks set to raise his profile further.

How I Live Now

Kevin Macdonald has made some terrific movies over the year and 2013 sees him return with How I Live Now.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the Meg Rosoff novel of the same name - which was published back in 2004.

An American girl on holiday in the English countryside with her family finds herself in hiding and fighting for her survival as war breaks out.

Saoirse Ronan will lead the cast while Tom Holland, Sophie Ellis and George MacKay will also star.

Other honourable mentions include Richard Ayoade's feature length directorial debut The Double, Blackwood and Driven. And if you haven't seen Welcome To The Punch or Les Miserables yet then you really should check them out.
