Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen

Starring: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett

Director: Antoine Fuqua

Rating: 3.5/5

Now I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Gerard Butler in all of these romantic comedies that he has been doing of late as I much prefer his taking on more action packed roles.

And that is exactly what he has done with his new movie Olympus Has Fallen as he teams up with director Antoine Fuqua for the first time for Olympus Has Fallen.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building.

As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning¹s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Yes you know exactly what is going to happen at every stage of Olympus Has Fallen and you know how the movie is going to end but it is really exciting ride none the less.

Fuqua has delivered an action packed movie from start to finish that is full of twists and turns and has plenty of bloody screen deaths that will keep the action junkies in the audience happy.

Look this is not a movie that is going to win any awards any time soon but it is a movie that you can kick back and enjoy as Gerard Butler does what he does best… and that is kick some bad guy ass.

It is a great performance from Butler and he is what keeps this whole movie together as he is a man on a mission of redemption.

Banning carries a lot of guilt over the accident and death of the President’s wife at the beginning of the movie - he wants only the chance to put the record straight.

Butler has a real presence in all of the action scenes as he powers through them with a real purpose and intensity - he has clearly worked hard before the movie and during the shooting to make the fight scenes as brutal as possible.

Once this movie stops trying to take itself seriously it becomes a much better movie as Fuqua kicks back and concentrates on delivering high octane action rather than trying to be too deep.

And it is the action set pieces and the hand to hand combat scenes that you will leave remembering as Fuqua has done a magnificent job at making them as brutal and bloody as he possibly can - seriously this the movie with the highest death rate so far this year!

Yes the plot is outrageous and silly and over the top but you will have a great time watching the White House go boom and Gerard Butler being his bas-ass self.

So don’t go and watch this movie is you are looking for major character development and a depth to the storyline. But if you are looking for a bit of fun on the big screen this weekend then Olympus Has Fallen is definitely the movie for you.
