I know that we are nowhere near the end of 2015, but we are already looking ahead to some of the movies that will be hitting the big screen next year... and Risen will be one of them.

Risen

Risen

Due to be released in March, Risen marks the return of Kevin Reynolds to the director's chair for his first feature film since Tristan + Isolde back in 2006. The filmmaker has also brought us films such as The Count of Monte Cristo and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Risen follows events after the crucifixion of Jesus and the hunt for his body after it disappeared from its tomb. The brand new UK trailer for the film has arrived and it looks like it is going to be quite an action packed watch:

A great cast has been assembled for the film and we will see Joseph Fiennes take on the central role of Clavius. He is joined on the cast list by Tom Felton, Cliff Curtis, Mario Botto, Mark Killeen, and Peter Firth, who is on board as Pontius Pilate.

2015 has been a very quiet movie year for Fiennes and it is great to see him on the verge of a new major leading roles.

Follows the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius (Fiennes), a powerful Roman Military Tribune, and his aide Lucius (Felton), are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumours of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

We haven't had too many biblical movies hit the big screen recently and I am already looking forward to seeing what Reynolds delivers - it is great to see the filmmaker back in the director's chair.

Risen is released March 2016.
