Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne

We love Rose Byrne here at FemaleFirst and she is back on the big screen this week with her new film I Give It A Year.

The comedy sees her team up with Rafe Spall, Simon Baker and Minnie Driver while Dan Mazer is in the director's chair.

Byrne kicked off her acting career as a teenager when she made her big screen debut in Dallas Doll at the age of thirteen.

She may have debuted in film but it was TV work that kept her busy over the next few years as she went on to appear in Echo Point, Fallen Angels and Wildside.

By 2000 she was making a bit of a name for herself as she picked up the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her performance in The Goddess of 1967.

The Australian film saw her team up with director Clara Law and was a huge hit on the festival circuit.

The Goddess of 1967 was a road trip movie that followed a Japanese man who travels to Australia to buy a Citroen DS and he ends up on a trip with BG -
played by Byrne.

She continued to steadily work in film with roles in The Pitch, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and I Capture the Castle under her belt.

Another blockbuster came her way in 2004 when she landed the role of Briseis in Troy - which saw her star alongside Brad Pitt and Peter O'Toole.

She reunited with the British actor the following year for the television adaptation of Casanova.

Since Troy she has been one of the rapidly rising young stars but she has continued to vary her projects.

She has moved from horror such as 28 Weeks Later to sci-fi with Sunshine and period drama with a role in Marie Antoinette - which was directed by Sofia Coppola.

Byrne also didn't turn her back on TV as he film career really started to blossom as she took on the role of Ellen Parsons in Damages.

She stayed with the show from 2007 to 2012 and picked up Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance alongside Glenn Close.

More recently her big screen work has seen her return to comedy with smash hit Bridesmaids.

Directed by Paul Feig the movie was both a critical and commercial hit when it was released in 2011 - dubbed the 'female The Hangover'.

Since then she starred in X-Men: First Class and Insidious and now she is back in I Give It A Year.

I Give It A Year is a rom-com that follows a couple through the trials and tribulations of the first year of marriage; Byrne and Rafe Spall are going to play husband and wife.

Byrne has also completed work on The Internship with Will Ferrell and John Goodman and she is currently filming The Turning.

The Turning is a collection of short films that are based on the stories by Australian writer Tim Winton and Hugo Weaving and Miranda Otto are also on the cast list.

I Give It A Year is released 8th February.
