Sandra Bullock in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Sandra Bullock in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Sandra Bullock returns to the big screen this week for the first time since her Best Actress Oscar win as she stars in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Bullock has become one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood over the years and to celebrate the release of her new movie we take a look at some of the films that you should have seen.

- Speed

Bullock may have kicked off her career in the late eighties bit it was the release of Speed in 1994 that really proved to be her breakthrough role.

The movie saw her team up with Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper in this action movie.

Bullock is the standout performance as Annie in this movie as she showed that she could not only handle the action aspect of the movie but the comedy as well.

Yes all the best and comedic lines were given to the actress and she really delivered a very sassy and standout performance.

- Miss Congeniality

Without a doubt comedy is Bullock's thing and in 2000 she took on the role of Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality.

The actress' personality just shines through with this role, and while the concept may be a little far fetched, she totally embodies the role and wins us over with her charm.

Not to mention she is very funny in the movie, and the scenes with Michael Caine really are some of the best.

This is an entertaining and somewhat charming movie that show off Bullock's comic ability to perfection.

- Crash

In 2005 she left comedy behind as she joined the ensemble cast of the Paul Haggis directed movie Crash.

Issues of race and gender cause a group of strangers in Los Angeles to physically and emotionally collide in this fabulous movie.

This was the best movie release of that year as a super talented cast delivered stunning performances and delivered a very strong message.

It was an uncompromising look at a very controversial subject and Bullock, along with the rest of the all star cast, were flawless.

- The Proposal

However one of my favourite performances from Bullock remains The Proposal, which was released back in 2009.

Bullock took on the role of Margaret, a pushy boss who forces her assistant to marry her so she can avoid deportation to Canada.

The movie her team up with Ryan Reynolds and the pair sizzled on screen from the opening scene right to the closing credits.

The movie was a huge hit at the box office as it took in excess of $317 million worldwide, the biggest grossing comedy of the year.

- The Blind Side

But it was to be a dramatic role that was to bring Bullock the ultimate prize in film.

Based on a true story Bullock delivered the performance of her career as a woman who brings a teenage boy into the family.

We all think of Bullock as the funny woman of Hollywood... well not anymore and we are left with the question why has she not done more dramatic roles?

This is a compelling story from start to finish and Bullock has a great chemistry with Quinton Aaron, who plays the youngster brought into the Touhy family.

- Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

It's another emotional role of Bullock this week as she teams up with Tom Hanks for the adaptation of the Jonathan Safran Foer novel.

The movie follows eleven-year-old Oskar Schell who is an exceptional child: amateur inventor, Francophile, pacifist.

And after finding a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Centre on 9/11, he embarks on an exceptional journey, an urgent, secret search through the five boroughs of New York.

As Oskar roams the city, he encounters a motley assortment of humanity, who are all survivors in their own ways.

Ultimately, Oskar’s journey ends where it began, but with the solace of that most human experience: love.

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close is released 17th February
