2016 is the year of the comic book movie and Suicide Squad is set to be the last 'must-see' film in this genre this summer.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is the latest DC comic to get the big screen treatment as Warner Bros continue to grow and develop this universe.

The film sees David Ayer back in the director's chair for his first feature film since the success of Fury - it is also the first time that the filmmaker has tackled a comic book film.

I have to admit, Suicide Squad is a movie that I have been looking forward to for some time and it looks like it is going to have quite a dark and gritty feel to it.

As well as being in the director's chair, Ayer has also penned the film's screenplay. Ayer has written screenplays for Fury, End of Watch and Harsh Time and I am looking forward to seeing him put his own stamp on these popular characters.

Suicide Squad boasts another very impressive cast list will Will Smith and Jared Leto leading the way as Deadshot and the Joker. They are joined by Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtenay, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Cara Delevingne as they take on the roles of Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Amanda Waller, Boomerang, El Diablo, Killer Croc, and Enchantress.

We are also going to see Ben Affleck make a cameo appearance as Batman, a role he tackled for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last month.

It feels good to be bad... Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.

U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

We have already seen the likes of Deadpool and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice rake in the cash at the global box office and it will be interesting to see how Suicide Squad performs later this year.

Suicide Squad is released 5th August.
