The Dark Horse is a movie not to be missed this week, if you are an indie film fan, and sees actor Cliff Curtis return to the big screen.

The Dark Horse

The Dark Horse

We have seen Curtis star in the likes of Die Hard 4.0, Sunshine, and TV series Trauma in recent years, but now he is set to take on the central role of Genesis, in a film that is based on a true story.

The character Genesis is inspired by Genesis Potini, a speed chess player who struggled with bipolar disorder. Despite his own problems, he works with the youngsters in his local area, teaching then chess in a bid to give them a focus in life.

A brand new clip for the film has been released and we have it for you take a look at a day before the film hits the big screen:

The Dark Horse marks the return of James Napier Robertson to the director's chair for the second film of his filmmaking career. He made his debut back in 2009 with I'm Not Harry Jenson.

As well as being at the helm of the film, Robertson has also penned the screenplay, co-produced and appears in the movie in the role of Dave.

While Curtis leads the cast list, he is joined by James Rolleston, Kirk Torrance, Miriama McDowell, and Xavier Horan.

The Dark Horse is an emotionally-charged, provocative drama about a man who searches for the courage to lead, despite his own adversities - finding purpose and hope in passing on his gift to the children in his community.

We have already been treated to some terrific indie films this year, but The Dark Horse is one not to miss as Curtis shines in the central role.

The Dark Horse is released 3rd April.
