Mark Wahlberg is set to return to the big screen in The Gambler, and the teaser trailer for the film has been released.

The Gambler sees Wahlberg team up with filmmaker Rupert Wyatt, as he returns to the director's chair for the first time since Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011.

We are huge fans of Wahlberg here at FemaleFirst, and this looks set to be another great role for the Oscar nominated actor.

And it is Wahlberg and the fantastic John Goodman who take centre stage in this brand new teaser trailer:

However, it is not just Wahlberg to watch out for, as Wyatt has brought together a terrific cast for the film.

Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, and Michael Kenneth Williams will all star alongside Wahlberg and Goodman.

Jim Bennett (Wahlberg) is a risk taker. Both an English professor and a high-stakes gambler, Bennett bets it all when he borrows from a gangster (Williams) and offers his own life as collateral.

Always one-step ahead, Bennett pits his creditor against the operator of a gambling ring (Alvin Ing) and leaves his dysfunctional relationship with his wealthy mother (Lange) in his wake.

He plays both sides, immersing himself in an illicit, underground world while garnering the attention of Frank (Goodman), a loan shark with a paternal interest in Bennett's future.

As his relationship with a student (Larson) deepens, Bennett must take the ultimate risk for a second chance...

2014 has been a great year for Wahlberg, as he has already enjoyed success with Transformers: Age of Extinction and Lone Survivor.

That success looks set to continue into next year with Ted 2 and Mojave on the horizon.

The Gambler is released 1st May 2015.
