The Monuments Men.

The Monuments Men.

George Clooney is one of the most exciting directors around, and he will return in the new year with The Monuments Men.

We haven't seen Clooney in the director's chair since the success of the Ides of March, but now he is tackling a war story with his latest project.

Clooney has teamed up with long time collaborator Grant Heslov to pen the screenplay, which is based on the book by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter.

This is one of the January 2014 movies that I am really looking forward to, and here is the brand new trailer for you to take a look at:

Not only has Clooney written and directed The Monuments Men, but he is also set to lead an all star cast.

I don't exaggerate when I say 'all-star' as Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin and Hugh Bonneville are all on board.

The Monuments Men focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners.

It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys - seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - possibly hope to succeed?

But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

The Monuments Men is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender and looks set to be one of the early 2014 movies not to miss.

The Monuments Men is released 9th January 2014.
