The Wind Rises

The Wind Rises

The Wind Rises is set to be the final film for animation director Hayao Miyazaki: and he is set to go out with a bang.

Miyazaki has made some of the most wonderful Studio Ghibli movies during his directing career, and it is going to be sad to see the maestro finally hang up his hat.

The Wind Rises has been picking up praise left, right, and centre, and here is the first clip from the film:

The Wind Rises is based on the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II.

The movie is based on the comic by Miyazaki and has been penned by the director himself.

A terrific voice cast has been brought together, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Stanley Tucci, and William H. Macy are all on board.

The Wind Rises has already picked up Best Animated Film gongs at the likes of the National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle, and New York Film Critics Online. It is also in the running for the Oscar.

The Best Animated Film category is a loaded field as Frozen, Despicable Me 2, The Croods and Ernest & Celestine.

Miyazaki has brought us movies such as Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and My Neighbour Totoro, and has helped make Studio Ghibli one of the greatest animation studios.

The Wind Rises is released 9th May.
