Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is being linked with the role as the next James Bond, once Daniel Craig has departed as 007.

It is believed that Craig has signed up for two further Bond films, but the hunt for his replacement is already on.

Should this come to pass, no doubt there will be a few people who will not be happy about the appointment, but FemaleFirst had long since tipped Hardy as the perfect Bond actor.

So should Hardy take over the role, will he be a good 007?

Well, he's British. Bond is becoming more and more popular - particularly with Skyfall being the box-office smash that it was - and you would expect Hollywood to sit up and take notice.

It is imperative that Bond remains a British franchise with a British actor in the lead role; I personally can't really think of another home-grown star that really fits the bill of 007.

Putting Hardy's good looks to one side, I think it's fair to say that he is the best British actor of his generation.

He has a great track record of successful movies; not to mention these movies have seen him tackle a wide range of roles. He has gone from playing Charles Bronson, to a spy in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, through to villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy is a chameleon actor who never delivers the same performance twice - therefore, he could shape a brand-new Bond with no fear that he has delivered this performance before.

With movies such as The Dark Knight Rises and Warrior, Hardy has shown that he can also undergo a physical transformation; therefore, continuing the more brutal and physical Bond that Daniel Craig has delivered in recent years.

Hardy is an actor who has enjoyed box-office success both in the UK as well as in the U.S. and so he will be a box-office draw in America.

At thirty six, Hardy is the right age to be taking over this role; actors such as Idris Elba and Hugh Jackman have been linked with the part, but already in their forties, they are just that little bit too old.

There is also a menace to this actor when he takes on a villainous role; The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless being perfect examples.

And while James Bond is not a villain per say there has to be a violence and a danger behind the 007 charm and swagger - I think it's fair to say that Hardy could and would pull this off with no problem.

In the last few years, Hardy has shown that he is a talented and versatile actor, who can get under the skin of a character as well as take on more physically challenging roles.

With these two skills, he could make Bond an interesting and complex character as well as being the cold-hearted trained killer that we know him to be.

Tom Hardy gets FemaleFirst's vote to be 007, but does he get yours?
