A Good Day To Die Hard

A Good Day To Die Hard

There is nothing more exciting than an action film and it seems that we are going to have some fab films in this genre coming our way over the next twelve months.

In fact it starts this week as Bullet To The Head marks the big screen return of Sylvester Stallone.

We haven't see him since The Expendables 2 and one again he is kicking some ass and showing the younger guys how it is done.

So to celebrate the release of the Walter Hill directed movie we take a look at the top five action films that we are super excited about here at FemaleFirst.

1. Elysium

If there is one movie that we are absolutely not missing this year then it is the highly anticipated Elysium as it marks the return of Neill Blomkamp to the director's chair.

Blomkamp grabbed everyone's attention back in 2009 when he made his directorial debut with District 9 - this is his first project since that huge success.

Once again he is not only in the director's chair but he has also penned the script and this movie sees him team up with Matt Damon.

Damon is one of the most versatile actors working in Hollywood today and this will be one of the few times that we see him on the big screen this year.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.

When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The only drawback to this movie is we are going to have to wait until September to see it.

2 A Good Day To Die Hard

John McClane is one of the great action heroes to ever grace the big screen and we were introduced to him for the first time back in 1988.

Now over twenty years later Bruce Willis is back as the unlucky cop to put some more bad guys in their place.

This is the fifth film in the franchise and the first since Die Hard 4 back in 2007.

A Good Day To Die Hard see John Moore in the director's chair while Skip Woods had penned the screenplay.

This time around McClane teams up with his son to beat the bad guys and this is set to be the biggest role of Jai Courtney's career - as he takes on the role of Jack McClane.

This time the take-no-prisoners cop is really in the wrong place at the wrong time after travelling to Moscow to help his estranged son Jack.

With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McLane’s discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

3. The Fast and the Furious 6

The Fast and Furious franchise kicked off back in 2001 and who knew it was going to be as successful and as enduring as it has been?

This summer sees the sixth instalment of the franchise hit the big screen as Vin Diesel and Paul Walker return to the role of Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner.

The movie comes two years after the mammoth success of Fast Five, which went on to become the financially successful film in the franchise to date.

Justin Lin is back in the director's chair for the film while the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Jordanna Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez are back.

Little is known about the plot at this time but we will get to see the first trailer for the film during the Superbowl this weekend.

4. 2 Guns

We love a bit of Denzel Washington here are FemaleFirst and he is set to return with his hew movie 2 Guns.

And as if that is not exciting enough the film will see him team up with Oscar nominated actor Mark Wahlberg - he is set to be the busiest actor of 2013.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the graphic novel by Steven Grant and sees Baltasar Kormákur in the director's chair.

2 Guns reunites Kormákur with Mark Wahlberg after the pair worked together on Contraband.

2 Guns is an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together.

But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.

5. Parker

Jason Statham is another fave here at FemaleFirst towers and he too will be back on the big screen as he teams up with Jennifer Lopez for Parker.

This is the first film for Statham since The Expendables 2 last summer and it sees him doing what he does best... kicking some ass!!

Taylor Hackford is back in the director's chair while Michael Chiklis, Wendell Pierce and Clifton Collins Jr are also on the cast list.

Parker (Statham), is a hardened professional criminal who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants, living by his own code of ethics - don’t steal from people who can’t afford it and don’t hurt people who don’t deserve it.

But when he’s double-crossed by his crew and left for dead, it’s time for payback.

Assuming a disguise and forming an unlikely alliance with a sexy local Palm Beach resident (Lopez), he tracks down the gang, aiming to take everyone out and hijack the score of their latest heist.

Bullet To The Head is released 1st February
