The first quarter of 2016 is already over and we have been treated to some great films and some wonderful trailers. You really cannot beat a good trailer!!!

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War

Have you had a favourite so far this year? We take a look at some of the standout trailers that have got us super excited for the movies that are on the horizon.

- Captain America: Civil War - released 29th April

Captain America is the film of 2016 that I am looking forward to the most as I am a HUGE Marvel film fan.

We had to wait until November of last year until we got our first trailer for this film. Since then, we got an action-packed TV spot at the Superbowl and another fantastic full-length trailer.

With each trailer, we have been given more of a sense of the animosity and division between the Avengers. And the last trailer gave us a first look at Tom Holland as Spider-Man.

Captain America: Civil War will kick off Phase 3 of Marvel films and is set to be the biggest Marvel film yet. This is the third solo Captain America film... could it be the first to gross over $1 billion at the box office? I guess we are going to have to wait and see.

- Jason Bourne - released 28th July

Another movie that I cannot wait to settle down and watch is Jason Bourne as Matt Damon returns to the role after almost a decade.

It was back in 2007 when The Bourne Ultimatum hit the big screen and this new movie sees the actor reunite with director Paul Greengrass. This is their fourth film together and their third Bourne movie - I am so excited to see them working on this franchise again.

The first look teaser trailer was released back at the beginning of February and gave us only a sneak peak of what we can expect from the new film and this iconic action character.

Julia Stiles is the only familiar face on the cast list as she reprises the role of Nicky. Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel are the big new additions to the cast list.

Bourne is one of the best action franchises of all time and Jason Bourne is really on course to be an explosive latest addition. I think it may also be the most successful at the box office.

- 10 Cloverfield Lane - out now.

10 Cloverfield Lane is one of the most acclaimed films of 2016 so far and was a movie that no one even knew was in production until the poster dropped at the beginning of the year.

There has been a lot of talk of a possible Cloverfield sequel for many years and - out of the blue - it arrived. However, it is being labelled more of a 'blood relative' than an actual sequel.

The first poster was quickly followed by the first trailer, which showed Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher living in a bunker in fear of what was on the surface. The trailer hinted that it was going to be a tense and claustrophobic affair... and it delivered.

Dan Trachtenberg made his feature film directorial debut with 10 Cloverfield Lane while J.J. Abrams was on board as producer.

- X-Men: Apocalypse - released 19th May

It was back in 2000 when the X-Men franchise was brought to the big screen for the first time, Sixteen years on, and Bryan Singer is back in the director's chair for X-Men: Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse is the fourth X-Men film for Singer and follows the success of X-Men, X2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was released to critical and commercial success back in 2014.

The first trailer for the film dropped right at the end of last year and in 2016, we were treated to a second, which hinted at the scale of the film and gave us a better look at some of the new characters.

James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult are back as Professor Xavier, Mystique, Magneto, and Beast. Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Kodi Smit-McPhee will take on the roles of Apocalypse, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler for the first time.

2016 is on course to be a terrific year for the comic book movie genre and X-Men: Apocalypse is up there as one of the movies that you cannot afford to miss.

- The Light Between Oceans - released 6th January 2017

We are going to have to wait until the beginning of next year until the release of The Light Between Oceans, but we have already been treated to the first trailer for the film.

The Light Between Oceans is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by M.L. Stedman and has been written and directed by Derek Cianfrance. This is the first film for Cianfrance since The Place Beyond the Pine and he has also brought us Blue Valentine in recent years.

Cianfrance has a knack for creating wonderful character driven dramas and The Light Between Oceans looks like it will continue that fine trend. Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander are set to take on the central roles of Tom and Isabel Sherbourne. Rachel Weisz and Caren Pistorius complete the cast list.

On a remote Australian island in the years following World War I, lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne (Fassbender) and his wife, Isabel (Vikander), discover a boat washed ashore carrying a dead man and a two-month-old baby. Rescuing the infant, they make the decision to raise her as their own but the consequences of their choice prove to be devastating.

The Light Between Oceans looks set to be a powerful and emotional film that will be in the awards mix at the beginning of next year. Fassbender and Vikander are two of the best actors around and it will be exciting to see them share the screen.

Other terrific trailers that have got us all excited include Suicide Squad, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and The Conjuring 2.
