It seems that as an actor being in your thirties really is a prime time as we are currently being treated to some terrific performances by some wonderful actors.

While many people may dread turning thirty it would appear that this is a time when actors really do thrive.

And we take a look at the top seven actors who are doing just that at the moment.

Ryan Gosling is back on the big screen this week with The Place Beyond The Pines and he really is one of the best actors of his generation.

In recent years he is an actor who has been getting better and better with every performance and has the likes of The Notebook, Half Nelson, Blue Valentine and The Ides of March under his belt.

He already has a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in Half Nelson and it can only be a matter of time before he gets his hands on the most coveted prize in film.

But it is not just in front of the camera that interests Gosling as he is set to make his directorial debut next year with How To Kill A Monster - he has also penned the script.

His performance in The Place Beyond The Pines is already being heavily praised and Only God Forgives looks set to get the same response.

The movie sees Gosling reunite with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn and will be released later this year.

We really do have some great British actors at the moment and Tom Hardy is one of them with a string of great roles in recent years.

While Brit audiences have been aware of his talent for some time it is only in the last four of five years that he has seen his star really rocket.

Bronson, a movie by Nicolas Winding Refn, really put him on the map and since the he has starred in the likes of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Inception, Warrior and The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Knight Rises saw him take on the role of Bane and it went on to be a billion dollar movie last summer.

And he is an actor who is in great demand as he has already finished work on Mad Max: Fury Road and Locke.

And it was his partnership with Martin Scorsese that really helped him change the course of his career.

DiCaprio has picked up three Oscar nominations throughout his career but he is yet to taste success - you do have to think that he will eventually win.

Shutter Island, Inception, J Edgar and Django Unchained have been his most recent projects as he has mixed and matched his roles.

He will be back later this year with The Great Gatsby and he has reunited with Scorsese once again for The Wolf of Wall Street.

We all remember Joseph Gordon-Levitt when he teamed up with Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You but he never remained a teen film star.

Instead Levitt has gone on to star in a wide range of movies that has shown him to be an incredibly versatile actor - he really is one to watch over the next few years.

He has tackled big budget projects such as The Dark Knight Rises and Inception as well as much smaller films such as Brick, 50/50 and Premium Rush.

But Levitt is one of the actors who will be making his directorial debut this year with Don Jon - a movie that he also penned and will star in.

Scarlett Johnasson is also on board and the film was premiered - and received well - at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year.
