Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz returns to the role that made her a star this week... of course I am talking about Hit Girl in Kick Ass 2.

And Moretz is just one of a handful of actress who are tearing up the big screen and are under twenty five.

There may be plenty of talented youngsters about but here are a group of actresses that are standing head and shoulders above the rest.

- Chloe Moretz (16)

Moretz has been acting long before she took on the role of Hit Girl in Kick Ass, but that really was her breakthrough role.

Since then she has mixed and matched her movies, moving from Let Me In to Hugo to Dark Shadows.

And over the next twelve months or so we are going to be seeing plenty of her as she will tackle some exciting projects.

She has already completed work on Carrie, a remake of the horror classic, and Laggies. She is currently filming The Equalizer; a movie that sees her team up with Oscar winner Denzel Washington.

If I Stay, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and Sils Maria are all projects that are also in the pipeline.

Moretz is an actress who is not afraid to tackle different genres as she has moved from action or comedy to drama and horror.

- Shailene Woodley (21)

It was The Descendants with George Clooney that really put Shailene Woodley on the map at the beginning of 2012.

And while she has worked sparingly the hype around this young actress keeps growing and growing.

We haven't seen her on the big screen since The Descendants, but that is set to change over the next twelve months.

The Spectacular Now and White Bird in a Blizzard are set for release... but it is Divergent that everyone is talking about.

She has finished filming on the Neil Burger directed movie, which is based on the novel by Veronica Roth.

This is already one of the most talked about movies of 2014, and it will be hitting the big screen in March.

- Jennifer Lawrence (22)

Jennifer Lawrence has already proved her acting chops as she has got a Best Actress Oscar under her belt.

She picked up the gong earlier this year for her sensational performance in Silver Linings Playbook - if you haven't seen this movie then you really should check it out.

She will be back this autumn with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, where she will reprise the role of heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Over the next year Lawrence will be mixing her blockbuster work with more dramatic roles. She will reunite with David O'Russel for American Hustle, and she will also star with Bradley Cooper in Serena.

She is also set to reprise the role of Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past; which is the sequel to the successful X-Men: First Class.

- Emma Watson (23)

Emma Watson shot to fame playing Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise - a series of films that brought her success for a decade.

Since leaving the HP series behind, the actress has worked on only a handful of projects.

My Week With Marilyn, The Bling Ring and comedy This Is The End have all been successful for the actress.

But it was The Perks of Being A Wallflower where she showed us what she was really made of as an actress. This was an adaptation of the much loved novel by Stephen Chbosky, and is a coming of age story.

Watson will be back on the big screen next year as she teams up with Darren Aronofsky for his biblical epic, Noah. Russell Crowe will take on the title role while Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins are just some of the other names on the cast list.

- Hailee Steinfeld (16)

You don't say 'I have arrived' better than picking up a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination with your breakthrough role... and that is exactly what Hailee Steinfeld did.

True Grit was that break through role. but since then we have not seen Steinfeld on the big screen.

And while Steinfeld may not have been starring in movies she certainly has been working on them.

Hateship Loveship, Romeo & Juliet, Can A Song Save Your Life?, Ender's Game, The Homesman, The Keeping Room and Three Days to Kill are all completed.

Ender's Game is the film to watch out for this autumn as Orson Scott Card's novel is adapted for the big screen by Gavin Hood.

- Emma Stone (24)

Emma Stone is one of the best actresses under the age of twenty five and has delivered some wonderful performances.

She has show her versatility as she has moved from comedies such as Easy A and Crazy, Stupid, Love to drama such as The Help.

Stone has already enjoyed box office success this year as she lent her voice To The Croods - a sequel is already believed to be in the pipeline.

She will also be reprising the role of Gwen Stacy next year in The Amazing Spider Man 2; which sees her reunite with Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb.

She has also completed work on Birdman; which is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Stone is currently filming a new project by Woody Allen.

- Saoirse Ronan (19)

Saoirse Ronan is another actress with an Oscar nomination under her belt; she received a Best Supporting Actress nod for her performance in Atonement.

That was the breakthrough role for Ronan, and since then she has gone from strength to strength.

We have already seen her in The Host and Byzantium this year, and she will be lending her voice to animation film Justin and the Knight of Valour in September.

She has completed work on How I Live Now, The Grad Budapest Hotel and How To Catch A Monster; the latter being the directorial debut of Ryan Gosling.

Kick Ass 2 is out now.
