The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

This week has been a total treat for all you trailer loves as we have got a sneak peak at some of the biggest and best movies that are on the horizon between now and the end of the year.

We are going to take a look at blockbusters, biopics as well as science fiction projects this week; and we are excited for the release of all of them.

- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

There was no bigger trailer release this week than that of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

This is the second film in Peter Jackson's trilogy and is set to be one of the biggest films of the year.

FemaleFirst were huge fans of An Unexpected Journey and we are excited to see Bilbo Baggins and co's adventure continue as the former comes face to face with dragon Smaug.

While Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan and Richard Armitage are back we will also be seeing Luke Evans and Evangeline Lilly join the cast list.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is released 13th December.

- The Wolverine

Hugh Jackman is a big of a fave here at FemaleFirst and it is great to see him back on the big screen this summer in The Wolverine.

This is the second stand alone film for this character and is set after events of X-Men: The Last Stand.

Both Jackman and director James Mangold have hinted that this is a darker film than we have seen before and we are going to see new sides to this much loved character.

The latest trailer some new footage from the film as Logan finds himself in Japan and coming face to face with someone from his past.

The Wolverine is released 25th July.

- Diana

There are some terrific biopic movies on the horizon between now and the end of the year... and Diana is one of them.

The movie sees Naomi Watts take on the title character and the film follows the last years of her life and her relationship with Doctor Hasnat Khan.

Naveen Andrews, Cas Anvar,Geraldine James and Juliet Stevenson are all on the cast list while Oliver Hirschbiegel is in the director's chair.

Over the last ten to fifteen years biopic movies have enjoyed huge success at the Oscars winning Best Picture gongs as well as acting prizes. So could Diana be an early Oscar contender?

Diana is released 20th September.

- Elysium

Elysium is a movie that I have been looking forward to for quite some time as Neill Blomkamp returns to the director's chair.

Blomkamp grabbed everyone's attention when he made his directorial debut with District 9 - this is his first film since that debut.

Elysium sees him tackle science fiction once again as he teams up with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster as he tells this futuristic story.

Set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds

Elysium is released 23rd August.
