Lord Voldemort is one of the best literary villains in recent year and was brought to the big screen for the first time back in 2001.
It has always said that if you want a good villain then you need to cast a British actor... that is exactly what director Chris Columbus did as Ralph Fiennes landed the role.
He was a constant presence and threat throughout all eight movies - even when he wasn't on screen his evil can be felt and influences the decisions that the other character made.
Voldemort is a powerful, intelligent and ruthless Dark Wizard who has terrified children ever since the first book was released back in 1997.
He is a character with no remorse and is driven by his ever growing desire for power.
Ralph Fiennes really does deliver all that is evil about Voldemort in such a terrific and terrifying way.
Fiennes is no stranger at taking on villainous roles having played the Nazi officer in Schindler's List.
Fiennes really manages to capture the emotion detachment of this character, and how power if almost like a drug for Voldemort.
And yet Fiennes never allows this character to descend into silliness. Sometimes we see actors struggle to keep blockbuster villains from going to over the top and descending in farce; that is no such problem for the English actor.
Harry Potter is the only character who has the power to vanquish the Dark Lord, and we see the pair go head to head in the final film.
The battle scenes between the two characters are some of the best moments in the film as Voldemort is desperate to see of this threat to him once and for all.
Harry Potter has gone on to become the biggest grossing franchise of all time and has taken over $7.7 billion at the global box office.
