Aningaaq

Aningaaq

Gravity is one of the best movies that I have had the privilege of seeing so far this year - and it could be on the verge of making Oscar history.

Not only is the film likely to be nominated for Best Picture, but a short film by director Jonas Cuaron, could well be nominated in the Best Short category.

One of the film's most poignant moments is when Dr Stone, played by Sandra Bullock, makes contact with a man on the radio in a Russian space capsule.

While the man is speaking in a foreign language he brings Stone a much needed moment of comfort. This short is told from the perspective of that man, Aningaaq.

Watch this very moving seven minute short film:

Jonas Cuaron penned the Gravity screenplay with his father Alfonso Cuarón, and it is great to see him explore one of the most memorable scenes a little further.

Gravity has been a critical and box office smash; it has so far taken in excess of $576 million worldwide.

Ever since the film started screening on the festival circuit this autumn, it has been tipped as a major Oscar contender.

It is likely to be nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress for Sandra Bullock and Best Director - as well as a string of technical awards.

Aningaaq is a beautiful and moving piece of cinema in its own right, and it would be a monumental moment it both films were to triumph at the beginning of next year.
