Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan

Ever since Karen Gillan took on the role of Amy Pond in Doctor Who, she has seen her star rocket... something that is only set to continue over the coming months.

Gillan is back on the big screen this week as she stars in new horror film Oculus: the first of two films starring the actress this summer alone.

Gillan has seemingly made a very easy transition from television to film, and she is one of the most in demand up and coming talents around.

Oculus sees her tackle the horror genre this week, as she teams up with director Mike Flanagan for the first time.

The movie follows Kaylie Russell (Gillan) as she tries to prove that her brother is not guilty of murder, instead proving that a supernatural force was behind the deaths.

Gillan joins forces with Brenton Thwaites - another actor making a name for himself this year - as they play siblings Kaylie and Tim Russell.

Katee Sackhoff, Rory Cochrane, Annalise Basso, and Garrett Ryan complete an exciting cast list.

Oculus has already enjoyed success in the U.S. - opening inside the top ten - and it is set to be one of the horror films not to miss this summer.

However, the summer movie that I personally cannot wait to see Gillan in is Guardians of the Galaxy: the latest offering from Marvel.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a new franchise from the studio, and see Gillan take on the villain role of Nebula - I have to say, she look fantastic as this character.

This is the second Marvel film of the year, and sees James Gunn in the director's chair; his first film since Super.

The likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Dave Bautista are all on board; it goes without saying that this is the biggest film of Gillan's career so far.

Guardians of the Galaxy is bound to be a box office success later this summer, and it will do nothing but introduce Gillan to an even wider global audience... her star is really only going to go up from here!!!

Gillan has also completed work on The List with Jennifer Morrison, Patrick Fugit, and director Harris Goldberg, and is set to return to television with new series Selfie.

In recent weeks it has been announced that Gillan has also been added to the cast of new Western film In a Valley of Violence.

Written and directed by Ti West, the movie will see her star alongside Taissa Farmiga, John Travolta, and Ethan Hawke. This is set to be a revenge thriller set in the 1890s.

Gillan is one of the British stars shining the brightest in Hollywood at the moment, and she looks set to enjoy huge success over the next eighteen months or so.

Oculus is released 13th June, while Guardians of the Galaxy will hit the big screen 31st July.
