Sally Hawkins

Sally Hawkins

Sally Hawkins has already had a terrific 2014, picking up her first Oscar nomination for her supporting performance in Blue Jasmine.

She may have missed out on the Oscar, but Blue Jasmine really showed her off to the movie world: Hawkins and Cate Blanchett really did make an excellent acting team.

Hawkins is back on the big screen this week as she makes the leap into the big budget blockbuster... of course, I am talking about Godzilla.

Godzilla marks her first big blockbuster role, as she stars alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Olsen.

The movie will see Hawkins team up with fellow Brit Gareth Edwards, as he returns to the director's chair.

Hawkins will take on the role of Vivienne Graham: a scientist who works alongside Dr. Ishiro Serizawa - played by Ken Watanabe.

Godzilla is set to be one of the biggest films of the summer, and is set to be a great new interpretation of this classic monster genre.

Hawkins has also completed work on Paddington, as the popular bear comes to the big screen.

Paul King is in the director's chair for the film, while Hawkins is joined on the cast list by Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent.

The Oscar nominated actress has also completed work on new drama X Plus Y.

X Plus Y will see Morgan Matthews move away from documentaries, and direct his first live action feature: it will be his first film since documentary Shooting Bigfoot back in 2013.

The upcoming trio of films is set to show off Hawkins' versatility as an actress, as she continues to mix and match her role.

She has also landed roles in TV movie How and Why and Maudie: both projects are currently in pre-production.

Hawkins is one of the most exciting British actresses around at the moment, and it is great to see her in the big budget blockbuster this summer.

Godzilla is released 15th May.
