Theo James has already had plenty experience in front of the camera on big screen and TV projects.

However, he is set to see his star rocket this week as he takes on the role of the mysterious and intriguing Four in Divergent: the big screen adaptation of the Veronica Roth novel.

Divergent is the biggest and most high profile role of his acting career to date, and he really is an actor to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

James kicked off his acting career in TV, when he landed a small role in A Passionate Woman.

From the very beginning, he mixed and matched film and TV projects, as he moved appeared in the likes of You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, Downton Abbey, and The Inbetweeners Movie.

2011 saw him return to television when he landed the role of Jed Harper in Bedlam.

The British supernatural drama was created by David Allison, Neil Jones and Chris Parker and saw James star alongside Lacey Turner. The show ran for two seasons, but James only appeared in the first.

While roles in Underworld: Awakening and TV series Golden Boy have followed, Divergent is the major breakthrough role that he has been looking for.

In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in.

When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late.

Divergent is set to kick off a trio of movies, as Insurgent and Allegiant are already in the pipeline.

The movie has already topped the box office in the U.S. and is set to be a box office smash here in the UK - no doubt propelling James and Shailene Woodley to further stardom.

However, we are not only going to be seeing James star in Divergent this year, as London Fields and Franny are also in the pipeline.

London Fields sees James team up with first time feature filmmaker Matthew Cullen, for this new crime/thriller.

Also starring Amber Heard, Jaimie Alexander, Jim Sturgess and Billy Bob Thornton, the film follows a clairvoyant who begins a relationship with three different men: one of whom she knows will be her murderer.

Filming has been completed on the project, but not U.S. or UK release date has yet been announced for the film.

Franny is another film of James' that is currently in post-production, and will also star Dakota Fanning and Richard Gere.

Andrew Renzi has penned the screenplay and is in the director's chair as he moves away from shorts and documentaries to makes his live action debut.

From the moment it was revealed that James was involved in Divergent, he has become one of the most talked about young actors.

The next couple of years are going to be a whirlwind as he completes work on Insurgent and Allegiant, but I am excited to see what roles he takes on outside of that huge franchise. He is certainly a name to watch out for.

Divergent is released 4th April.
