Ever Records are hopelessly proud to announce that they will release the fruits of Lee Hazlewoods final recording on December 10th 2007. The song, titled Hilli (At The Top Of The World), is a collaboration between the legendary songwriter / singer / producer (who died of complications from renal cancer on August 4th 2007) and Icelands amiina, who released their debut album Kurr for Ever Records in June 2007. It will be released on CD and digital, and also features a cover of Hazlewoods classic Leather & Lace (from the extraordinary Cowboy In Sweden album)The recording was carried out at Lees home in Las Vegas shortly before his 78th birthday, only weeks before he passed away. The tracks were then passed on to amiina, who adapted the original version of Hilli to be found on their Kurr, released by Ever Records in June 2007 to suit Lees vocals and the text. It was played in public for the very first time at Hazlewoods Memorial Party in Phoenix a month after his death. The song addresses contemporary environmental issues of global warming in the form of a childrens story, written to reflect the style of spoken word performances that can be found on some of Hazlewoods recordings from the 1960s and 1970s. A video is also in production.
So celebrate the life of one of musics greatest maverick legends and the imminent arrival of Christmas with a poignant and cautionary tale that represents not only an unlikely yet magical collaboration but also a memorable final performance.
