Bryn Crowns Award-Winning Year With Album Tribute To Classical Music’s Best-Known Composer – Tutto Mozart! Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel will lead UK celebrations of Mozart’s 250th anniversary year when he releases a brand new disc of operatic arias by classical music’s most famous composer on September 11th. This musical tribute couldn’t come at a more suitable time as Bryn’s prolific career has recently been recognised with high-profile awards all over the world, including the Queen’s medal for Music at the end of July. To mark the album’s release and celebrate this special Mozart year, Universal Classics and Jazz have branded a London black cab with Bryn’s album artwork. The cab will also play Bryn’s new album to customers throughout September and October. This will be the first time a classical album has been promoted in this way, and it will act as the perfect prompt for stressed customers to relax in London traffic while introducing them to the genius of Mozart and beauty of Bryn’s voice.Bryn’s last two albums were phenomenally successful, bringing him a whole new set of fans in the UK and firmly securing him the place of Britain’s best-loved international opera star. Bryn & Simple Gifts reached numbers 6 & 10 in the pop album chart respectively, as well as going straight to the top of the classical charts where Simple Gifts still remains some ten months after its release.Part of Bryn’s charm is down to his wide-ranging musical tastes. Whether playing the lead role in a Wagner opera at one of the top opera houses around the world, singing the Welsh national anthem before an international rugby match or performing a touching song at a sold-out gala concert, Bryn communicates with his audience in a way that few performers can. He is adored by his fans and critics alike and seems to have a vocal Midas touch.Bryn hit the UK headlines last month when he became only the second ever person to receive the Queen’s Medal for Music, presented to him by Her Royal Highness at the BBC Proms this year. Bryn had already received a CBE for his services to opera so this latest award is a true measure of his UK success and popularity. He was also awarded the international Shakespeare Prize for his ‘outstanding contributions to European Cultural Heritage’. This is in addition to the Classic FM listener’s prize he won at the 2004 Gramophone Awards and the Classical Brits Male Artist of the Year which he has picked up an astounding three times in the ceremony’s short history.

Bryn’s new album is part of Deutsche Grammophon’s Mozart Forever project to celebrate the 250th year since the composer’s birth. The album includes some of the composer’s greatest operatic arias from The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and Cosi Fan Tutte, the last of which contributes the beautiful trio Soave sia il vento with young Swedish soprano Miah Persson and mezzo-soprano Christine Rice. The disc is conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras who was coincidentally the first person to receive the Queen’s Medal for Music. He and his Scottish Chamber Orchestra have become renowned for their Mozart interpretations, making the artists on this disc a truly award-winning combination.Bryan Terfel, Tutto Mozart
