On the road this summer Zero 7 have showcased the upbeat, playful vibe of their critically acclaimed album ‘The Garden’. The childlike enthusiasm of long time cohort Sia Furler and the compelling vocals of new recruit, and man of the moment, Jose Gonzalez have helped make Zero 7 a joyous festival act.One of the show’s undoubted highlights is the forthcoming single, the gorgeous ‘Futures’, written and produced by Zero 7. As a taster of the new album’s more organic sensibility ‘Futures’ appeared as a limited edition vinyl release back in March, it returns here with diverse range of mixes from Rub ‘N’ Tug, Metronomy and Al Usher. Trademark Jose fingerpicking drives the lush electronics of Zero 7 through a series of gently winding vocal melodies, before Sam and Henry take the wheel; catching Jose’s vocals in a sampler and taking a sharp left turn into dark electronica. In demonstrating themselves as masters of the studio arts Zero 7 provide the blueprint for the remixes that follow. Starting where the original leaves off Rub n’ Tug’s mix opens up with electronica, cuts to Jose in stark acoustic relief, and then makes a beeline for the dancefloor. Metronomy cast Gonzalez as a wasp in the ear, amid a wildy panning and frenzied mix, and Al Usher takes an altogether darker route from the originals warm electronics; dropping a dub house beat onto some decidedly spikey synths. “Futures” will be available on 12” vinyl, CD and digital download. The digital and CD releases feature the radio edit and the Metronomy Remix, while the 12” features all three remixes. Zero Seven, Jose Gonzales, Futures
