Looking back over the last 12 months, Los Angelinos The Airborne Toxic Event have taken every one of their fledgling dreams and turned them into a soaring reality. The indie label upstarts have gone from strength to strength driven by their own will, charm and of course an unfailing ability to write emotionally profound and classically shaped pop songs.

Recovering from what was definitely up there as The Week From Hell, lead singer and lyricist Mikel Jollett literally looked death in the eye and had an epiphany. This moment shaped his and band mates; Stephen Chen (guitar), Noah Harmon (bass), Anna Bulbrook (strings) and drummer Daren Taylor, total out look on life - seize the day because you only get one shot.

So, despite numerous major label advances at their inception, TATE decided they would sign with local Los Angeles independent label Major Domo. Together these two underdogs would go on to topple the turgid giants of the US rock radio airwaves.

Two years on in early 2009 the band found themselves at the pinnacle of the radio charts, towering over idols and supposed unconquerable giants of guitar music : U2, Coldplay, Oasis etc., etc. UK shows were selling out in minutes flat and this time when the major labels came a-courting the band and their indie founding label acknowledged that it was time for The Airborne Toxic Event to once more seize the day and move forward.

Now together with Mercury Records, who proudly received the band into their worldwide stable, TATE will be releasing the prosaically titled e.p. Happiness Is Overrated on 8th June 09. A sure-fire live favourite that has the crowds chanting, TATE’s Anna Bulbrook crowd surfing (tambourine aloft) and lead singer Jollett beaming in glad wonder at just how far they’ve come.

The e.p is underpinned by acoustic versions of the soon to be re-released radio smash Sometime Around Midnight, the sparse and sardonic I Dont Want To Be On TV and a live session recording from KCRW of album track Something New.
