Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Gaga's been on a bit of a downer lately.

"Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result. Millions of dollars are not enough for some people. They want billions. Then they need trillions. I was not enough for some people. They wanted more." is just part of the message she's left on her social media site Little Monsters, and quite frankly - we're a tad worried.

In a bid to cheer her up - if only for a moment - we've decided to take a look at 10 of the things we love about the first Lady of pop music.

1) Her music

Of course we had to feature the tunes that keep us dancing time and time again. When she blasted onto the scene with Just Dance, we couldn't help but do exactly as we were told, and fast forwarding to today, it's great to see that with hits such as Applause and Do What U Want that she hasn't lost her touch.

2) Her fashion sense

We know that when Gaga's stepping out she's going to be wearing something more extravagant than the last time. In fact, we're probably more shocked when she steps out in just heels and a tartan shirt than when she's covered herself in Kermit the Frogs or a tonne of meat. Whatever the case, she certainly encouraged other stars to bring out their expressive sides through music videos and television appearances.

3) Her skills behind a piano

Gaga's fast, pop music is fantastic, but when she just sits behind a piano and lets her pipes go to work, she's out of this world. Some of her best performances are when she's left to do her thing with her baby grand, and her acoustic version of Do What U Want - performed on Alan Carr's Chattyman - had people talking for days.

4) Her outrageous performances

Of course, we all also adore when she wants to put on a spectacle, and none has ever come quite so close to the VMAs Paparazzi extravaganza of 2009. The spectacular Muppets special with her did come close, however. RuPaul and Joseph Gordon-Levitt - what more could we ask for?

5) Her interactivity with fans

'Little Monsters' are constantly complimenting 'Mother Monster', and her closeness and bond with those she calls her friends is like something never seen in a fanbase before. A social media site was even set up in their name so that they can chat to the star in person on special occasions.

6) Her massive collaborations

Christina Aguilera jumped at the chance to put rumours of a feud to rest and perform a duet with Gaga, which even led to a studio recording and Do What U Want re-release to occur. Mick Jagger also shocked when he invited Gaga on-stage to perform alongside him, and there are many artists who have Gaga on their collaboration wishlists!

7) Her stance in politics

She's done a lot for the LGBTQ community since she's been put in such a powerful position, and played a vital role in repealing the Don't Ask Don't Tell bill in America - stopping the law that meant homosexuals had to keep their sexuality a secret while serving in the army.

8) Her sense of humour

Despite her serious persona at times, she can still be absolutely hilarious, as proved when she took on Alan Carr for 'Cooking with Gaga' and 'Painting with Gaga' on his chat show. She isn't afraid to poke fun at herself, and even took part in a sketch that was her idea for Saturday Night Live, about Old Lady Gaga who had faded into irrelevance.

9) Her intelligence

Old interviews with Gaga show the star talking about how a woman cannot be sexual in the world of music, but if a man is to do the same, he will be called a rock star. Fast forward to today, and it's a debate that still rages on. Seems that she's on the money with society and standards 100 per cent of the time.

10) Her admiration for and from other artists

Lorde is the latest musician to heap praise onto Gaga, calling her "rad" on Twitter - and we all know how hard it is to gain approval from the New Zealander! Others who have spoke kindly about her include Katy Perry, Rihanna and Christina Aguilera - she's doing it for the women!

So, cheer up Lady Gaga! We all still love you, and we can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve for 2014!
